Dee Banks School
Improved Governance and award nominations
It was like a breath of fresh air when Su, from Shaping Governance, first met with our Governing Board. We were all keen volunteers, passionate about our roles as a Governor but, until that point, we felt that any training we’d been on had failed to address the specific needs of an SEN school.
Su very quickly assessed where we were at and over the past few years has helped us to focus our collective efforts and shape our vision for Dee Banks. By helping us to reorganise our meeting schedules, identify key link roles, and writing “job descriptions” of these roles Su has enabled us to work smarter.
We also develop better relationships with each other and our senior leadership team, which has raised our profile in school, despite a global pandemic; and can definitely see how our roles are making a positive impact!
We have all gained confidence since Su first started working with us and we are delighted to have been nominated for the Cheshire West Governance Association “CWGA Board of the Year 2020/2021”.
As Chair of Governors, I really appreciate the opportunity to chat in confidence with Su. When something new or challenging has cropped up being able to make a brew, pick up the phone and ask “what would Su do in this situation?” has been invaluable.
I am constantly learning in my role as a Governor and am delighted, and a bit overwhelmed, that I have been nominated for “CWGA Chair of the Year 2020/2021”. There is no doubt that the encouragement and training from Shaping Governance helped us reach this point where we are nominees for such prestigious awards.
Thanks to training and advice from Su at Shaping Governance the Dee Banks School’s Governing Body continues to develop and grow and I would not hesitate to recommend Shaping Governance to other schools and Governing Boards.
