Shaping Governance turns 7!

Celebrating 7 Years of Shaping Governance: A Journey of Impact and Growth

On the 8th of April, Shaping Governance turns 7! It’s an occasion that allows us to reflect on our journey, the milestones we’ve achieved, and the impact we’ve made in the world of governance.

Seven years ago, Su Turner, our Chief Executive, embarked on a mission to redefine governance, create solutions that bridge the gap between theory and practice, and help schools, public services, and not-for-profit organisations govern effectively in an ever-changing world. Today, as Shaping Governance marks this significant milestone, we are proud to say we’ve come a long way.

Our commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration has remained unwavering throughout these seven years. We’ve worked tirelessly to develop cutting-edge tools, methodologies, and frameworks enabling our clients to navigate complex governance challenges confidently and clearly.

Founding Principles

Shaping Governance was born out of Su’s vision to change the way governors are supported. As a governor, she recognised the need for innovative solutions that could help governors improve their knowledge and experience and their governing practice. Whilst there were lots of governor training available, Su wanted to support governors in a time-considered way while staying true to the principles of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity and to reward governors for giving their time to their school or where they govern.  Back in 2017, Shaping Governance was a stand-alone governance improvement product, but quickly became our purpose: to shape governance for the better.

Our Evolution

Over the past seven years, Shaping Governance has evolved from a small one-woman start-up organisation to a recognised leader in the field of governance innovation and improvement. Our team has grown, our reach has expanded, and our impact has multiplied. We’ve worked with schools, academies, governments, membership organisations, charities, health boards, and communities across the UK, driving positive change and demystifying governance.

Our journey has been marked by numerous achievements and highlights:

  • Impactful Partnerships: We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with a diverse range of partners – from government agencies to multinational corporations, not-for-profit organisations, and educational institutions. These partnerships have been instrumental in driving positive change and fostering sustainable governance practices across various sectors.
  • Thought Leadership: At Shaping Governance, we believe in the power of knowledge-sharing and thought leadership. Over the years, we’ve published research papers, thought-provoking articles, and comprehensive guides that have helped shape the conversation on governance-related issues.
  • Recognition and Awards: We’re proud to have been recognised for our efforts and to have received community and business awards that validate the impact of our work and our contribution to schools and communities.
  • Innovative Solutions: In a rapidly evolving world, innovation is key to staying relevant. We’ve consistently pushed the boundaries of traditional governance approaches, leveraging different approaches, such as asset-based theories, child-centred governance and design thinking, to develop innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs of our clients, their settings, and their governance.
  • Beyond boundaries: Our impact extends far beyond boundaries or borders. Working across different sectors enables us to gather the best governance practices and utilise this learning. We’ve also had the privilege of working with organisations across the UK, enriching our perspectives and broadening our horizons.
  • Client Success Stories: The true measure of our success lies in the success of our clients. We take immense pride in the positive outcomes achieved by the organisations we’ve had the privilege to work with, whether it’s improved decision-making processes, enhanced stakeholder engagement, strengthened accountability mechanisms, or helping teams work together effectively.
  • Building a Community: Perhaps most importantly, we’ve built a community of change-makers who share our vision and are committed to driving positive change in governance.

As we look to the future, we’re excited about the possibilities. The world is constantly evolving, and so too must our approach to governance. We’re committed to staying at the forefront of innovation, leveraging emerging technologies and insights to address the most pressing challenges facing schools and communities today.

In the coming years, we’ll continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible, working hand in hand with our partners and stakeholders to build a more inclusive, transparent, and effective governance ecosystem.

Thank You

Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been a part of our journey. Whether you’re a partner, client, collaborator, or supporter, your trust, support, and dedication have been the driving force behind our success, and we look forward to continuing this journey together, Shaping Governance for a brighter future.

Here’s to seven years of excellence, impact, and growth, and many more years of shaping governance together!
