We're hiring - Governance Associates

Shaping Governance has a strong reputation for improving governance in schools, academies, charities, councils and the NHS.  We provide a range of services that target governance improvement from different angles, including providing our award-winning Shaping Governance improvement sessions, bespoke training, coaching and mentoring, clerking, improving teamwork and structures and external governance reviews.

We are looking for dynamic, talented and flexible individuals with the right skills and attributes to join our team of governance trainers and facilitators.

We offer various services to ensure that governors and trustees have the right knowledge and skills to be effective in their role - whatever sector that may be in.

We have a number of opportunities which are offered on a self-employed associate basis.  The type of work, hours and pay offered will depend on your skills and experience.  We pay per meeting or training session, with hourly rates of £30.00 per hour for off-the-shelf support; higher rates are payable for development work in line with recognised standards (individually agreed). We also offer an end-of-year bonus scheme subject to terms and conditions. But if you share our values and want to learn more about how you can work with us, please get in touch.  These are just some of the opportunities that are currently available for the right people:

  • Shaping Governance facilitators: helping to deliver our award-winning governance improvement toolkit;
  • Appreciative Governance: helping to change the conversation in governance;
  • Bespoke training and development: in schools, academies, charities, councils and health organisations;
  • External Reviews of Governance - in schools, academies and whole trusts - using our Shaping Governance methodology
  • Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Corporate Parenting support for Councils

To be successful, you will:

  • Be a motivated self-starter, able to work under your own initiative and manage deadlines;
  • Be highly reliable, professional, and well organised, respecting confidentiality;
  • Have strong facilitation and presentation skills;
  • Have the maturity, confidence and interpersonal skills to build trusting working relationships with those that you work with
  • Be an expert in governance in one or more sectors and have an understanding of appreciative approaches.

Our associates are self-employed and home-based (although the ability to travel is essential) and are term-time only. Our opportunities are flexible, and our associates can take on as much or as little as they prefer. You will need access to a computer and printer and are responsible for your travel arrangements to meetings where necessary and responsible for your own tax and national insurance.

The role is subject to the provision of a satisfactory DBS certificate to establish your suitability to work in a school setting.

Whilst induction and product-specific training will be provided, you are responsible for developing and maintaining your knowledge and skills to meet the role's demands.  We have regular virtual and face-to-face team meetings, and you will have access to various resources, training and advice.
