Alternative Provision and Pupil Referral Units

APs and PRUs educate children who are unable to attend mainstream schools. Pupils are often referred there if they need greater care and support than their mainstream school can provide.

Our Experience

We have extensive experience supporting governors of Alternative Provision / Pupil Referral Units in fulfilling their educational responsibilities and connecting with their school stakeholders.

Su Turner, CEO of Shaping Governance, has experience working with AP and PRUs to improve their governance.  She was chair of a Management Committee for a Cheshire Pru and supported them in enhancing their governance framework, including restructuring and defining the new framework for working, becoming a more active and strategic governing board.  We are familiar with the roles and regulations for alternative provision.

How we help

We have a solid reputation for working with Alternative Provision and Pupil Referral Units to ensure that their governors can monitor and support the school to provide the best education for children. Our Shaping Governance Programme provides training, benchmarking, and improvement support for schools and governing boards. It helps governors understand their responsibilities and make a difference.

We also support Management Committees to develop their role and become Governing Boards, providing strategic oversight.
